As someone who struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for over fifteen years, I know first hand the torment that being in bondage to alcohol and drugs can cause an individual and the people who love them. I can also relate to the devastating effects a parent and sibling who are substance abusers have on the children in that family. I was a member of that kind of family. My parents divorce, the feelings of rejection and abandonment by my father and mother helped sow the seeds of addiction in my own life. I spent years trying to solve my problems and medicate the pain from my past through alcohol and drugs before I finally discovered I could not get clean and sober without help. With God’s help, I was delivered from my addiction and destructive lifestyle.
Therefore, I have a heart for other people who are still struggling. Since addiction is really a spiritual problem, I am convinced that a person can only be set free from alcohol and drug addiction through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the only true higher power. Once a person understands who they are in Christ and that identity becomes part of their daily experience, then they can begin to walk in victory.
I first began my counseling practice with people who were struggling with addiction because I could relate out of my own experiences.
Over the past eleven years, I have discovered and used techniques and materials that have been successful in helping people be set free from addiction. For the last five years, I taught and supervised several Christ-centered Celebrate Recovery groups to those in prison, as well as outside. We also run a one-year residential recovery program in Gwinnett County under the name Good Samaritan Ministries.
So if you are struggling with addiction, or know someone who is, take the first step toward being set free from addiction or helping someone else and contact me.
